Kylie Boo was born with Congenitally Corrected Transposition of the Great Arteries (CCTGA) in 1997 and underwent a procedure as an infant. Due to the rarity and complexity of her heart condition, she was unable to receive the ideal treatment – the Double Switch Procedure. Instead, she underwent two operations as part of the Fontan Procedure in 2017, performed by a surgeon in Singapore. In 2018, she was transferred to an adult heart centre for post-operative rehabilitative care.
After being discharged from the hospital, she returned to her love for visual arts, using it as a way to give voice to the heartfelt words and desires of patients who long to be “normal” — expressions that might otherwise remain unheard.
Through her art, Kylie hopes to share the social and emotional challenges faced by patients, who are sometimes ostracized by those around them who may not fully understand their struggles — not only physical, but also mental- an artist who draw heart.
