Beating 2022: Underneath the Skin. Kylie Boo, an artist who was born with congenital heart condition, surfaced her ideology of bullying in 2021. Her voice was spoken to the public through her online art exhibition that was successfully launched in July 2020 – “Beating 2020: We Are Purple Humans”. Kylie knows that her aim to spread the awareness of congenital heart diseases shall not stop here.
Kylie insisted in sharing the social and emotional challenges faced by individuals with CHD, and perhaps some of the dreams they have that were left unfulfilled. Through exploring the virtual space of the exhibition, the audience had experienced the range of emotions faced by these individuals which are depicted by the transition of colors from dark blue to bright red. They had also see daily sceneries or activities within the artworks, which some individuals with CHD, could not do.
The main objective of illustrating 15 different types of artwork is to spread the complexity beneath the skins of congenital heart defects to the public, focusing on cyanotic and acyanotic heart conditions. Patients with congenital heart disease has different anatomy and each anatomy carries a wonder, be it blood or configuration, those that are unable to be seen on the outside, hence there are rarely people know about their conditions. Their heart may not be normal but they can be beautiful as well.
This project is to educate the public more about congenital heart conditions, defeat the judging eyes towards these people.
